Interesting story on how the crunch in the financial markets is impacting the availability of draw-down cash at VC backed startups.
The national credit crunch is starting to hit Silicon Valley start-ups. We’ve heard that venture-backed companies with Comerica money market accounts have had their accounts frozen, and when we asked Comerica spokesperson Sara Snyder, she didn’t deny it.
Snyder didn’t explicitly confirm anything either, but pointed to this New York Times article about problems in the auction-rate note market (where Comerica has invested its money market accounts) and said, “At Comerica, we are working with customers on a case-by-case basis to assist them with their liquidity needs.” (Venture Beat)

10) I’m getting a lot out this for work, so it totally justifies the expense.
Elliot Spitzer certainly threw a lot of stones from that glass house of his!
Gov. Eliot Spitzer has informed his most senior administration officials that he had been involved in a prostitution ring, an administration official said this morning. Mr. Spitzer, who was huddled with his top aides inside his Fifth Avenue apartment early this afternoon, had hours earlier abruptly canceled his scheduled public events for the day. He scheduled an announcement for 2:15 after inquiries from the Times. (NY Times)
Huntingdon Valley-based Immunicon Corp. announced today it is cutting 45 jobs, mostly in research and marketing, and taking a first quarter charge of between $1.3 million and $1.5 million for severance. The company employs about 100 full time. The layoffs reflect a March 3 decision that was unfavorable to Immunicon in its arbitration with Veridex L.L.C., a Johnson & Johnson company. (Philly.com)
